I’ll start by saying that I’m not an expert at evaluating lacrosse capability. I’m simply a fan, and an African American father of lacrosse players. I have an 18-year-old son who just finished his tenth year in the sport. And my daughter logged seven joyful seasons since the third grade.

I’d love to see the lacrosse media do more to showcase the progress and project the presence of diversity in the game. In that spirit, I’ve put together an All-Black NCAA team for Division 1 college men.

The fact that we are now able to assemble (on paper of course) a full team of African American players in 2019 is worth celebrating. If well received, it could become an annual list. If not (and that would be sad in its own way), at least those young men and prospect players will see themselves reflected in a meaningful way. Here’s my list for the men’s squad — but I certainly welcome thoughts on identifying who is best to be on this imaginary roster.

Join me in celebrating these wonderful athletes.
